Hi there, I'm Shannon!

I am a trauma-informed therapist who is an LCSW and I graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2010 with my MSW. I am passionate about EMDR and CBT because I wholeheartedly believe that people can change and grow and heal from trauma.

My approach

I am an eclectic and dynamic therapist who will be actively involved in your treatment and not just a "blank slate." I use techniques such as EMDR, CBT, DBT, ERP, Motivational Interviewing, and Interpersonal psychotherapy to identify and address your concerns collaboratively with you.

My focus

My areas of expertise include trauma, depressive disorders, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, OCD, interpersonal conflicts, life transitions, and LGBTQIA+ issues. I work best with clients 13 and older.

My communication style

I am an interactive therapist. I will actively listen and reflect but also provide constructive ideas to help with your concerns. I like to use humor and have a more outgoing personality.

My journey to mental healthcare

I have always been a person that others felt comfortable talking to, and I believe this naturally led me to being a therapist. I love being a therapist and helping others to be the best versions of themselves. I have training in EMDR, CBT, Motivational Interviewing, LGBTQIA+, and substance abuse.

My goals for you

I work with you to develop goals that meet your needs and discuss treatment options with you. I will frequently discuss your views on your progress and adjust to this as time goes by. Ultimately, you determine when you feel your goals are met and when therapy is completed.

My first session with you

In our first session, I will introduce myself and discuss confidentiality and its limits, then ask you to discuss the reason you came to therapy. I will follow up with questions about your symptoms, functioning, and relationships, as well as any trauma history or risk factors. There is always time later to answer any question that you aren't quite ready to discuss at the first session.
