My approach
My approach to providing therapy is first to be a listener. I want to hear what you are experiencing and what and where you would like to see improvements in the different dimensions of your life including your personal, professional, spiritual and relational areas of your life. The most common theoretical approaches that I utilize are cognitive behavioral therapy, person centered and inner healing work. I also enjoy working with a strengths based and solution focused approach. During this process, this may involve delving into childhood experiences, traumatic experiences and strongholds. I would be honored to work with you in these areas.
My focus
I typically work with adults of all ages and children who are experiencing trauma and abuse, grief, intimacy-related issues, parenting issues, anger management, career difficulties, depression, compassion fatigue, attachment issues, commitment issues, control issues, emptiness, family of origin issues, forgiveness, guilt and shame, impulsivity, infidelity, mood disorders, multicultural concerns and women's issues.
My communication style
When working with me, it is a collaborative team effort allowing for open and honest dialogue to identify root issues with the intention of making lasting change and moving towards identified goals. I do my best to create a nurturing environment where clients feel seen and heard. The formation of the client and therapist working relationship is an important element in therapeutic sessions and strive towards allowing space for the therapeutic relationship to allow clients to feel comfortable, relaxed and challenged.
My journey to mental healthcare
What attracted me to a career as a therapist is a deep desire to have the opportunity to work with clients who are experiencing challenges and work with them towards healing, health and wholeness. I believe that in our lifetime, we will all experience great joys and also deep pain. To be able to learn, grow and understand ones self from the perspective of our mental health is a great gift. It is a gift that can provide freedom where we can strive towards not feeling trapped by situations and emotions, but rather having options and clarity moving towards our best lives. It is an honor to do this work and it is what both drives and inspires me to be in this career.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting with clients is to first listen and provide space and time for clients to identify their problem areas and work towards examining the goals they would want to achieve during our time together.
My first session with you
During the first session, it is about both client and therapist getting to know each other by talking about what brings you to therapy. My hope is that we are able to see if the working relationship is one that the client can feel comfortable moving forward by feeling safe, listened to and affirmed.
