Hi there, I'm Cara!

Hi, I'm Cara Kelley. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and I believe counseling provides a safe, supportive relationship where you can openly share your thoughts and feelings and learn new strategies for coping with situations and emotions. Areas of practice include: Relationships, Parenting, Career, ADHD, Aging, Caregivers, Codependency, Commitment, Communication, Divorce and Separation, Forgiveness, Guilt and Shame, Life Purpose, Midlife Crisis, Panic Attacks, Anxiety, Women's Issues, Workplace Issues, Young Adult Issues.

My approach

I use several different approaches or theories in therapy as I believe no one approach fits all clients. I use Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Client Centered and several others, depending on the client and the situation. I believe that one must take a holistic approach to overall health. The mind, body and spirit are so intimately connected that one most certainly influences the others.

My focus

I typically see clients between the ages of 25 and 70 and most of my clients need help with Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, Relationship or Job related issues. I deal with many other situations such as: Parenting, Aging, Caregivers, Codependency, Commitment, Communication, Divorce and Separation, Forgiveness, Guilt and Shame, Life Purpose, Midlife Crisis, Panic Attacks, Women's Issues, Young Adult Issues, but this seems to be where most of them fall.

My communication style

My desire is to work with you to develop new patterns in your life that can lead to healthier coping skills, increased confidence, and a greater sense of purpose and meaning in your life. I believe my role is to help you utilize what you already know and your strengths to help you overcome barriers in order to grow more fully into who you want to become. I believe in the strength of human resiliency, but sometimes we become stuck and need help to move forward.

My journey to mental healthcare

I believe this is what I was meant to do. I love my work and helping people. Those "lightbulb moments" with clients are what it's all about. I have always been the one people come to for a listening ear and the one they know can keep a secret. Goes well with therapy doesn't it? "It's never too late to be what you might have been." - George Eliot

My goals for you

I work with the client to set attainable goals. We look at life patterns and which ones need to be broken or changed and go from there. You know you best. I am here to come along side and help unpack the burdens that way you down.

My first session with you

The first session is about gathering information, finding out what you need to work through and how I might help you with that. It's also about establishing a therapeutic relationship.
