Hi there, I'm Byeol!

My name is Byeol Shim. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in the state of IL. With my background and training in art therapy, I utilize various artistic methods and creative modalities to encourage the personal growth of the individuals I work with.

My approach

My approach to therapy typically uses Art Therapy, Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Strengths-based Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. My General approaches include Culturally sensitive/inclusive, Trauma-informed, person-centered, attachment-based, and strengths-based.

My focus

I typically work with clients with mood disorders, personality disorders, childhood/attachment trauma, race-based identity concerns, depression/anxiety, acculturation-related or cultural issues, grief and loss, relationship challenges, and life transitions.
