Hi there, I'm Gina!

Hello, My name is Gina Dunphy. I am an LCSW working with children and adults. My approach to therapy is eclectic. I utilize a variety of modalities, such as CBD; DBT; Client-Centered, and Mindfulness. I like the client to define during therapy what direction they want to take, and what interpersonal skills they would like to achieve. My areas of focus have been Anxiety; Depression; Bipolar; Eating Disorders; Existential Anxiety; Trauma (Somatic) Therapy.

My approach

My therapeutic approach involves meeting the client where they are. I use Rogerian principles, as well as Mindfulness and Goal Oriented approaches.

My focus

I typically work with clients who may have issues of co-dependency, trauma, anxiety, depression. I am able to see clients in the afternoon and on week-ends. I let the client describe what there goals are for therapy and incorporate the appropriate principles.

My communication style

I like to create a very peaceful environment for clients, in which they feel comfortable sharing their struggles, goals, thoughts and emotions. I am a very focused listener, make sure to not interrupt, and often used active listening if I need clarification regarding something they said. People have told me I have a calming voice.

My journey to mental healthcare

I knew from the time I was in 5th grade I wanted to become a therapist. My own journey in life has taught me some important lessons and if I can help someone in any way than I believe I am fulfilling my purpose in life. Once I began studying human psychology I knew I was in the right field, as I was utterly fascinated by what I was learning.

My goals for you

I like to discuss the domains of a person's life, such as home, work, social group, family, and lead them to set goals for each area. I use the technique of setting SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound) Goals so they have continual feedback in how they are progressing.

My first session with you

During the first session I usually introduce myself and describe how I let them be the guides of their Therapy Experience. I begin to get a framework after probing presenting problem/problems. I make sure they feel safe sharing their thoughts/feelings. If the client presents with Depression I do a mini assessment of risk for harm and offer suggestions to address this.
