Hi there, I'm Stephen!

I am a licensed clinical psychologist who has been practicing since 2006. With a doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Roosevelt University in Chicago, my work has primarily focused on adults and late teens from diverse backgrounds. I also support caregivers of dementia patients.

My approach

My therapeutic approach is tailored to each client's needs. For example, when treating specific anxieties like fear of riding elevators, I begin by establishing a foundation of mindfulness through relaxation and meditation exercises. We then work together to develop a progressive exposure plan that gradually exposes you to the anxiety-provoking situation at a pace you are comfortable with. Mindfulness serves as a grounding tool to help manage any setbacks along the way.

My focus

I work with a wide range of clients, including adults and minors ages 16 and 17. My areas of specialization include addiction, aging, alcohol use, Alzheimer's, anger management, antisocial personality, anxiety, bipolar disorder, borderline personality, coping skills, depression, drug abuse, dual diagnosis, domestic violence, impulsivity, job stress, life coaching, mood disorders, older adults, psychosis, relapse prevention, schizophrenia, sexual addiction, stress, and substance use.

My communication style

I have a laid-back personality and a good sense of humor, which helps put clients at ease and promotes an open atmosphere for sharing. Above all, I believe in providing a client-centered approach grounded in empathy, compassion, and understanding. Building a strong rapport is essential for working together effectively to address your concerns.

My journey to mental healthcare

My journey in mental healthcare has spanned various settings. From 2010-2012, I served as a Staff Psychologist at Atascadero State Hospital for the Criminally Insane. Prior to that, I worked as a Clinical Therapist at Liberty Healthcare's Sexually Violent Persons Program (2007-2010), conducted neuropsychological assessments at Elgin Mental Health Center's Forensic Treatment Program (2006-2007), provided therapy for severe mental illnesses at Back of the Yards Mental Health Center in Chicago (2005-2006), and counseled a diverse community population at Northwestern Counseling Services (2004-2005).

My goals for you

My goal is to create a safe, non-judgmental space where you feel heard and supported. Together, we will identify your unique challenges and develop effective coping strategies to improve your overall well-being. I am committed to helping you build resilience, gain insight, and achieve the positive changes you desire in your life.

My first session with you

During our first session, we will focus on getting to know each other and establishing a strong therapeutic alliance. I will listen attentively to your concerns, ask questions to gain a deeper understanding of your situation, and work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan aligned with your goals. We will also discuss my approach to therapy and address any questions or concerns you may have to ensure you feel comfortable and confident in our work together.
