Hi there, I'm Richard!

I am Richard Goldin LCSW. My approach is to help individuals and couples to overcome struggles in their emotional well-being and embrace new perspectives and "tools". The goal of therapy is to grow and change to experience life and relationships in a more positive, wholehearted way.

My approach

By helping individuals embrace healthy new perspectives, and use "tools" to be able to apply these new perspectives, the result will be a whole new more positive way of experiencing life and relating to others. I use a mix of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance, Mindfulness, Solution Focused Therapy, Exploration of Values and Cultivating Life Purpose and Trauma Focused Therapy to help my clients work through adversity and negative emotions to get to a space where life and relationships are experienced in a positive, wholehearted way. I make extensive use of outside resources (podcasts, readings) to help my clients move forward.

My focus

I have extensive experience working with individuals and couples. Issues I have experience and knowledge in are depression/anxiety, substance use issues, relationship issues - committed intimate relationships and extended family, adversity in childhood that leads to trauma response in emotional processing, ADHD, LGBTQ issues, working with individuals who lack clarity in purpose and how to move forward, grief and loss and anger management. I utilize effective clinical tools to help individuals and couples and also incorporate healthy spirituality in my counseling practice.

My communication style

In my sessions, I start with getting to know the individuals and couples I work with and learning about your history individually or as a couple. Follow-up sessions start with reflecting on the highs and lows since the last therapy session as well as working on our goals.

My journey to mental healthcare

I pursued a career in mental health as a therapist after having a life-changing experience in therapy when I hit an emotional and spiritual "bottom". My therapist helped me replace and unhealthy and inaccurate belief system with healthy thinking which allowed me to move forward in a positive way with my life. The experience in therapy was so powerful and it helped me connect with one of my core values of helping others, which led me to transition into this career, which I now have been at for 30 years.

My goals for you

After getting to know individuals and couples through learning about their history, I work collaboratively to set goals, both goals that my clients want to work on and goals I feel would be important from the individual and couple's history.

My first session with you

The first session is primarily to get to know each other and in that process set goals for therapy. I am confident that our first session will instill hope and motivation for positive growth and change.
