Hello to all! My name is Devin Teicher and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in both Illinois and Colorado. I believe that building a trusting relationship and safe environment is the centerpiece of all therapeutic collaboration. My background is primarily in behavioral health, specifically outpatient therapy, crisis counseling, and substance use disorder treatment.
My approach
I believe that each client faces a unique set of problems, and there is no singular approach that works best for all individuals. The therapy process is a very personal experience that is unique to each individual, and treatment planning should be personalized as such. I practice therapy from a strengths-based mindset, believing that the human spirit is inherently resilient and that all individuals possess inner strength and value.
My focus
I have worked with clients who experience a range of behavioral health concerns, to include depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, adjustment disorders, personality disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, and substance use disorders. I enjoy working with teens, adolescents, couples, and women, specifically surrounding self-esteem and body image issues.
My communication style
I believe in making therapy a safe and collaborative process that is free of judgment. In order to do this, it is important to meet each client where they are at. I strongly believe that clients are the experts of their own lives and that my role as a therapist is to help clients identify challenges and negative or intrusive thought patterns, practice introspection, and help build resilience, growth, and practice self-care in healthy ways.
My journey to mental healthcare
When looking at my career goals, I examined my own skillset and strengths closely. While I have never been much of a strong student in areas of math or science, I knew one of my biggest strengths was deep empathy and an ability to connect with others. I wanted to use these skills to be able to positively impact others along the way in their respective life journeys.
My first session with you
During the first session, we will focus on getting to know one another and answering any questions you might have. The idea of starting therapy can be nerve-wracking, especially if it is your first time seeing a therapist, and scheduling a first session is a brave step. We will talk about what to expect from therapy, your goals in therapy (or work on establishing goals), and your rights as a client during your therapeutic journey.
