Hi there, my name is Kate Hoffower and I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor as well as a certified Ecotherapist. I have additional training in EMDR, creative arts therapies and working with survivors of sexual abuse and assault. I practice from a strengths-based and solution-focused perspective.
My approach
Whether it's "big T Trauma" or "little t trauma", no one's life is perfect. From a difficult breakup to family conflict, relationship concerns, the loss of a loved one, a global pandemic, or surviving any number of difficult experiences, the world is going to test you. I will meet you where you are and together we will create a map to help you move forward. I draw from CBT, ACT, Motivational Interviewing, Strengths-Based, Solution-Focused and Existential theories and practices.
My focus
My areas of specialty are: Anxiety, Depression, Life Changes, Grief and Loss, Trauma, Sexual Abuse and Assault, Adult Children of Alcoholics.
My communication style
In our first few sessions I will ask a lot of questions about your life experiences, current struggles, and goals. We will create a treatment plan and start to figure out ways to achieve your treatment objectives. I will use interventions and theory from different modalities depending on your interest and needs. For instance, we might explore connections between thoughts, feelings and behaviors, discuss how your life choices align with your values, explore your feelings through a poem, or practice grounding exercises by turning to nature. One thing I will consistently do is look for the balance between supporting you and pushing you to take the necessary steps to grow. It isn’t going to be easy, but it will be worth it.
