My name is Brandy Shirley and I'm a licensed clinical professional counselor in Illinois. I specialize in guiding my clients through tough life transitions using a positive, mindful approach to growth and self-care.
My approach
I use a variety of treatment modalities depending on my client's needs; however, the primary interventions used are positive psychology, holistic therapy, mindfulness-cognitive based therapy, and solution-focused techniques.
My focus
Most of my clients are women and men needing to process change in their lives. They're in the process of divorce or break up, found out their significant other has cheated on them, recently lost a loved one, became a parent for the first time, lost a job, became disabled in some way, or they just feel like they're having a "mid-life crisis" and don't know who they are anymore.
My communication style
I'm very encouraging, kind, empathic, and non-judgmental. I see the bigger picture and understand that change is growth. I genuinely care about you and will offer support and feedback when needed. Overall, my purpose is to sit with you during some of the most difficult times of your life.
My journey to mental healthcare
I've been through many challenges myself and understand the layers of emotion attached to each challenge. I've seen my way through the hard times using faith and a deep understanding as to why things happen the way they do. I became a therapist to help others do the same.
My goals for you
We'll create a treatment plan together tailored to your personal goals. I'll do a check in with you every 3 months to ensure we are still on the same page and/or if you would like to change your goals.
My first session with you
We'll spend this time getting to know each other. I'll ask what brought you into therapy and we'll complete an assessment that helps me understand your journey. We'll also review PATH practices together and set up weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly appointments.
