Hi there, I'm Sara!

I'm Sara Bennett. I obtained my LCSW in 2020, but have been in social work since 2008. I believe you are the expert in your life, but everyone can use some support now and then. Life doesn't always make sense, which is why I sought my own therapy for the first time in my mid-twenties. I work with people, adults and teens, through individual or couple/family sessions when they need help navigating life. That includes people who are experiencing anxiety, depression, big life changes such as divorce, grief, and more. I can also help provide parenting support. I believe in person-centered care where you are the expert in your own life but firmly believe everyone could use a good support team.

My approach

I believe in providing you with the person-centered environment and providing perspective from information/education and skills that can improve how you function in your life. I mainly use components of CBT, however, I also use pieces of DBT, radical therapy, ACT, IFS, and positive psychology.

My focus

Most types of client concerns can be addressed during session. I do not provide substance use counseling, severe mental health concerns, severe trauma counseling, counseling for DID, or crisis counseling within a telehealth setting.

My communication style

I am an assertive communicator who believes in open dialog. We are respectful of each other's spaces and words. That means that all subject matter is open to a respectful conversation, even if that topic might be unpleasant.

My journey to mental healthcare

Life doesn't always make sense, which is why I sought my own therapy for the first time in my mid-twenties after the sudden death of my husband. That life-changing moment, that therapist, and that experience are what brought me to the field as a provider. I have been in the field for more than a decade; licensed since 2020. I have worked in child protection services field, field of disability, hospital settings, outpatient therapy settings, school settings, crisis field, and hospice field. I specialize in teens and young adults but love working with adults of all ages. I work primarily with people who are struggling through adjustments to different phases of life and/or are experiencing anxiety and depression. Marriage and family counseling also fits into that box. I believe we are all doing the best we know how to do and can do better with the right skills and support.

My goals for you

I believe clients are the experts in their lives, which means they have the right to develop their own goals that will be achievable within counseling. I might add to those goals, but that is an open conversation with client and will never be done without discussion first.

My first session with you

Clients can expect me to ask questions about where they are, what lead them to this space, and what they hope to achieve through counseling. Part of that discussion is understanding our roles, understanding safety issues, and confidentiality policies. One of the most important things we will discuss is what their expectations are and how they feel therapy might work best for them.
