Hello Welcome! My name is Valentina Gasparro and I hold a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology and am Licensed in Illinois as a Licensed Clinical Professional Psychologist with over 20 years of experience. I have a Person-Centered approach (very personable); my main objective is to help individuals promote their best selves in their lives. I am very excited to help you on this journey!
My approach
an integrative approach with a main focus on insight-oriented treatment, Emotionally Focused treatment, mindfulness skills, and person-centered as well as solution-focused treatment.
My focus
I typically work with all ages and genders--my specialty is mood disorders, situational stressors, and trauma-based work.
My communication style
Very open communication and a feeling of safety where clients can feel vulnerable in therapy-- I provide a holding environment where clients can feel free to express themselves without judgment.
My journey to mental healthcare
I truly believe "you resist what in life will persist" (quote by Carl Jung). Therapy helps transform lives where these barriers to resistance can finally come down and we can start promoting our best selves. I believe we all have and deserve the opportunity to promote our best selves in life, which is precious. Only "we" know what that feels and looks like. I believe every human being has the potential to make positive changes that will enable them to live a more effective and fulfilling life and it's always been an honor to help clients in therapy to do so--this firm belief I hold is what has motivated me in this field now and forever...
My goals for you
I offer solution-focused-centered questions to have you reflect and then decide on your therapy goals. For instance, asking you "If you knew your life was getting better, what would that look like?" Hence, build on your goals based on your answers to this question.
My first session with you
Questions regarding the reason for seeking treatment, establishing the therapeutic alliance, familiarizing you with therapy (if you are seeking therapy for the first time), gathering pertinent psychosocial information, and thinking about goals that you would like to work on in therapy.
