Hi there! I am Angela Farris. I am a social worker through and through! I love my work and have been told I build rapport and trust easily. I have a BS in psychology and an MSW in clinical social work. I have always found myself in situations in which I am serving others in an attempt to improve their lives. I am a Christian woman, and I believe in treating everyone equally and with respect and kindness.
My approach
I primarily use CBT, DBT, and trauma-informed modalities. I have a strong background in working with depression, anxiety, and trauma. I approach psychotherapy by looking to the past to understand how one developed, learned, and formed their worldview, thought patterns, and core beliefs. This information helps to identify where to focus the work which needs to be done to achieve the therapeutic goals.
My focus
I think an ideal client would be someone who is ready to be honest, fearless, courageous, and kind to themselves. I appreciate openness and willingness to engage in the process. Therapy is like medicine and needs to be made a priority for the best outcome.
My communication style
I practice active listening. I meet my clients where they are and provide honest guidance. I believe in trust and rapport and strive to be transparent and worthy of the confidence my clients give me. I am a laid-back person who hopes all of my clients feel comfortable being themselves.
My journey to mental healthcare
I've always been told I am easy to talk to and am a good listener. I have always been good at keeping private matters private. I am a survivor of trauma in multiple ways, and I wanted to find a way to "pay it forward" and help others who needed the help I was fortunate enough to find for myself.
My goals for you
Success is measured by the clients. What I look for is the relief of symptoms, improved outlook, and improved quality of life. Let's expand on what is STRONG about you instead of what you may view as being "wrong" with you. Goals are fluid and ever-changing as we navigate the process. Flexibility is important.
My first session with you
I am genuine, honest, and trustworthy. I am a straight shooter but am not harsh, judgmental, or critical. I can be firm but gentle at the same time. You are the expert on yourself. I am here to help you find the answers to your questions and the healing you seek. Our first session will be spent getting to know one another, going over a brief history, and setting goals for follow-up sessions.
