Hello - my name is Janet Choe-Steagall, a licensed therapist in IL and NY. My approach to therapy comes from understanding the intricate ways we are all connected and how, as individuals, we are striving for contentment, safety & balance, and healing through self-actualization and community. My focus areas of practice include transgenerational trauma, sexual trauma, motherhood, life transitions + identity, anxiety, and interpersonal challenges.
My approach
My therapeutic approach is eclectic and focused on the needs of the clients I serve. I feel that the most important foundation is to build a strong therapeutic relationship and incorporate various elements of various modalities such as DBT, CBT, IFS, and Mindfulness.
My focus
Clients I’ve worked well with have ranged in their life stages - from adolescence to adulthood. They may be coming in anticipating or after a major life transition, experiencing general malaise, or struggling through more explicit symptomology like aggression, anxiety, or somatic expressions of challenging effect.
My communication style
My communication style is approachable, funny, and warm. I am probably more expressive than the average therapist, but bringing my own authentic self helps clients to build more comfort and be ready for change.
