Hi there, I'm Tina!

Hello! My name is Tina Lakatos, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have extensive experience working with individuals who have survived various forms of trauma- traumatic events, PTSD, as well as TBI, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, and adjustment difficulties. I also support the family members who provide care and assistance for their loved ones who may be struggling with these problems. My purpose is to work with individuals and families to help them heal and recover by use of therapeutic interventions that are multifaceted, eclectic, and designed with the individual's particular situation and needs in mind. I look forward to helping you resolve the challenges in your life and achieving your goals in order for you to live the life that you want and were born to live.

My approach

I have found that each client brings a combination of their own unique personality, life experience, challenges, and needs to the counseling setting. With this in mind, I make use of a wide variety of therapeutic philosophies and interventions. Once the therapeutic goals are established, we will work together to solve the problems that each client faces, using an integrated approach, identifying the most effective treatment interventions from an array of evidence-based psychological theories, such as, but not limited to CBT, Rogerian/Client-Centered, DBT, Anger Management, etc. We will discuss these in advance so that each client is fully informed on the techniques and rationale for implementation.

My focus

My client focus is on patients between the ages of 5 to 100 years of age. I have extensive experience in treatment for the following issues: PTSD; Trauma; Anxiety Disorders; Panic Disorders; Phobias; Bi-Polar Disorder; Personality Disorders; Anger management; Relationship problems; Adjustment problems; Attachment problems; ADD/ADHD; Depersonalization and Derealization; Grief and Loss; Life change events such as job loss, divorce, adoption, etc., and Social Anxiety Disorder.

My communication style

There are a number of important aspects to communication, and in utilizing them, I like to make people feel relaxed and comfortable, and at ease, as if they are speaking with someone that they have known and trusted all of their lives, such as a trusted loved one or friend.

My journey to mental healthcare

I decided to focus on providing individual therapy after working in various work settings with a wide range of populations. In that process, I found that people needed more support than what a school social worker, medical/discharge or crisis social worker, etc., provided in their workday on a routine basis. While these are all very important and necessary jobs and tasks, people needed time with me while working in those roles to talk about the concerns and problems that they were experiencing in their lives. It was during these moments that I realized how much more I could help these people, and that I how I began to focus on counseling. All of my work career has been extremely rewarding, but the best is when I can help a client heal and live the life they want and deserve to have.

My goals for you

Goal setting with me is a collaborative activity; I work with my clients to identify the problems, the severity of problems and symptoms and explore how these are impacting the individual's ability to function in their family, education, career/job, social settings, etc. Once this has been completed, we prioritize the problems and set a treatment plan.

My first session with you

The first session is a time when we get to know each other. I will ask you for information about your life, from childhood till the present, family, friends, education, career, about any traumas that you may have experienced, and your medical and mental health diagnosis. We will discuss your background and purpose for seeking therapy as well as the logistics and the rights, responsibilities, and expectations of the parties within the boundaries of the therapeutic process. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions that you may have as well!
