Hi there, I'm Whitney!

Hello, I’m Whitney Perdun M.A. LCPC, ATR-BC, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and a Board Certified Art Therapist working with individuals, families, and couples of all ages. When life complications, such as ongoing stress, major life changes, grief, identity crisis, relationship conflict, family issues, or trauma are present in our world, we all naturally start to unravel. My ambition is to help my clients bring balance back into their lives, build healthy relationships and form a sense of understanding, peace, and safety within themselves and with their loved ones. We all have maladaptive thoughts and behaviors that can be changed to bring about a more positive environment for us to dwell in. Self-work is the most important life work. Growth in this area not only provides positive gains to the individual but is residual, and affects all those that we come in contact with.

My approach

Not one single modality is right for every individual, couple, or family. I take an eclectic approach to include but not limited to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Rational Emotive Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Therapy, Family Systems, Grief Therapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Play Therapy, Art Therapy, and Structural Planning. Every person is an individual and I strongly believe that treatment should be tailored to complement the character within. When words are not comfortable I integrate Art Therapy techniques as an alternative to a direct verbal approach. This technique is utilized most often when working with children or when trauma creates a block in communication.

My focus

As a therapist, I have had success in treating clients (individuals, children, families, and couples) with Relational Conflict, Behavioral Disorders, Identity Crises, Trauma, Anger Management, Insecurities, Depression, Anxiety, Bi-polar Disorder, Panic Disorders, as well as those going through Life Transitions. My practice is culturally diverse, and I have served clients across the globe. It is a welcoming place for all. Diversity is not about how we differ. Diversity is about how we embrace one another’s uniqueness. -Ola Joseph

My communication style

I believe it is of the utmost importance that the client feels safe, heard, and validated in sessions. My approach is a gentle manner that is truth-centered. I will challenge the client's perspective if necessary. Often people come to therapy because life has narrowed their view of a situation and they are unable to see possible outcomes. I view my job as the ability to help the client step back and view that situation from a wider lens, which allows more opportunity for change. We all need an unbiased sounding board in life to help us sort out issues and develop new skills.

My journey to mental healthcare

I decided to change my career at 30 years of age to become a therapist. I worked in the creative industries throughout my 20s and no longer found it gratifying. Psychology has always held a strong draw for me and I have always wanted to understand others on a deeper level. Self-work and self-discovery have provided me with a more abundant life and career. I wish to help others along their journey to becoming a more fulfilled self. I am certified as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and a Board-certified Art Therapist.

My goals for you

Progress for each client looks different. I take time with each individual to determine the therapy goals as a team. Success no matter what form it takes is always accompanied by a sense of well-being and achievement.

My first session with you

In our first session, most of the time will be spent getting to know one another, information gathering, and discussing the client's expectations and therapy goals. Making sure that the client/therapist relationship is a good fit is important. For therapy to work at its best a good connection is necessary. I want my clients to choose the therapist that is best suited for them. The client should also expect to accomplish all the paperwork needed for their insurance provider.
