Hi there, I'm Nadjeh!

It is important to talk through the different therapy strategies with a client to determine what suits them and meets their expectations of treatment. I like using different modalities of treatment (like Dialectical Behavioral Treatment, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, and Client-Centered interventions), and feel it is important to educate the client on these options to decide on what will work well for them. Regardless of the treatment modality, they choose; setting realistic treatment goals is so important, and will allow clients to see change as they work through treatment. I believe that people have an innate capability to process obstacles in their lives and re-frame how they view personal problems so that seemingly unsolvable life obstacles suddenly become solvable. I think that is why I’ve always deviated toward solutions-focused behavioral health interventions throughout my career. My clients have found a great deal of empowerment and success when using intervention exercises that have a CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Theory) focus. CBT is based on the idea that people can get caught in dysfunctional patterns of thinking, behavior, and emotion. All a person has to do to break these patterns is change the way they think about the context of the problem. That’s why I work with my clients on cognitive restructuring (thought-changing). I find this to be an important first step in addressing problems that one has been stuck on for a long time. Sometimes changing how you think about problems can take some time, so I believe that building distress tolerance is another key therapeutic goal. Being able to tolerate discomfort is an important skill that can be used in many situations, and is something that I focus on with clients as well. I always advise clients that they should approach behavioral health therapy the same way that they would physical therapy. When someone goes to a physical therapist, the therapist assesses the client’s physical state and works with them to develop a recovery plan that requires that the client set goals for themselves and complete exercises that will help them heal, recover, build strength, and cope with pain. This is the same way I conduct therapy. This is a collaborative process, and my job is to help a client address his or her life stressors, anxiety, emotional pain, and other challenges in a way that makes sense for them. My objective is to help the clients figure out what they need to do to grow and make adjustments in the way they address stresses and difficulties in their day-to-day lives.
