Hi there, I'm Lisa!

I am Lisa Roberts, a Licensed Mental Health and Addiction therapist. I received my education from Lindsey Wilson College, in mental health counseling. I have been a practicing therapist for 14 years, in private practice for 5 of those years, as well as having several years of experience providing telehealth services. I work with a wide variety of disorders, including depression, anxiety, substance abuse, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, and many other mental health care conditions.

My approach

I utilize an eclectic approach to counseling, pulling from many counseling methods such as CBT, ACT, Dialectical therapy, and many more, to tailor your services to meet your specific needs. I strongly believe in meeting my clients where they are emotional to build a trusting therapeutic relationship that can lead to significant mental health improvements and substantially improved quality of life!

My focus

I enjoy working with adolescents to older adults who are motivated and ready for change and willing to put in the work necessary for improved mental health. Therapy should never be equated to "feeling like pulling teeth."

My communication style

I am not a traditional "starchy", "dry", or "white wall" therapist. I take pride in being unconventional and utilizing humor and a directive approach to working with my clients. You are trusting me to provide you with guidance and feedback, to provide coping skills, and therapeutic interventions to help you. When we close out of our session, the last thing I will ask you is "What is your takeaway for today?" Thus, I will not allow you to close out of a session empty-handed.

My journey to mental healthcare

I began my career journey starting out as a special education teacher where I found myself dealing with a variety of life crises in the classroom. I spent a great deal of time managing student home-life struggles and unmet emotional needs, then only to realize that education was a distraction from what those kids really needed. Due to budget changes, I found myself seeking a new teaching position which led me to the opportunity to enter the counseling field. I genuinely feel that when you are on the path to what you are meant to do in life, things fall into place with little effort and I have been on this path since that time.

My goals for you

When you decide you are ready for therapy, you are the only person who knows what you need to address. As such, I feel that it is important to have a clear understanding of your needs so we can work together to set and direct your therapy goals for success.

My first session with you

During our first session, we will hit the ground running. You will not close out of your first session feeling that "this was a waste of time." Your first session will entail a discovery and history-gathering element but, will also address the initial stabilization of your mental health needs.
