Hello! I am LaJuana Walker-McGill and I am a licensed professional counselor with 23 years of experience providing mental health therapy. I reside and practice in the state of Missouri. I provide client-centered and cognitive behavioral therapy to individuals dealing with issues related to depression, grief, anxiety, relationships, anger management, and adjustment issues.
My approach
I met clients where they are by creating a safe in-person or virtual environment for them to express and explore their feelings. I serve as a guide in assisting client to develop plan that best suits them and their situation by encouraging insight and healthy coping mechanisms and other strategies. My therapeutic approach is supportive and client-centered.
My focus
I work with adults and couples between the ages of 18 to 65. I am experienced in treating depression, anxiety, grief, relationships, anger management, and adjustment issues.
My communication style
I create a safe space that allows clients to openly express their feelings without judgment. I like for therapy to feel like a solution-focused conversation that clients are able to benefit from.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have wanted to be a therapist since I was in high school. I watched an episode of the Oprah Winfrey Show that involved a family being helped by a therapist. In that moment, I knew that I wanted to be someone who would help individuals and families heal from emotional pain and disappointment. I set a goal to become a therapist, and I achieved it over twenty years ago.
My goals for you
I include client in the goal-setting process.
My first session with you
In the first session, client should expect to be informed of the practice policies, be given the time to get comfortable with the therapeutic environment, and be involved in the information-gathering process. Client should expect to answer a few questions to aid in identifying their therapeutic needs.
