Hi there, I'm Lisa!

Hi there, I'm Lisa Hoskins, a licensed clinical social worker. The decision to seek counseling is an empowering first step in your self-care and overall well-being. Beginning the process of self-understanding and acceptance is intentionally making a choice to approach life differently whether that be reframing your perspective, unlearning negative thinking patterns, cultivating more self-compassion, or trying a different strategy.

My approach

I approach therapy with a practical and solution-focused lens. Therapy in general is client and compassion-focused and strength-based. Techniques may include Cognitive Behavior modications and Mindfulness based exercises.

My focus

My specialties and experience include working with older adults, caregivers, and children caring for aging parents; individuals living with chronic and life-limiting illness; and with women as they navigate life transitions, and seeking to increase self-awareness, assertiveness, and healthy boundaries.

My communication style

My communication style is affirming and supportive with the goal of putting one at ease and building rapport. This is when true work can begin.

My journey to mental healthcare

As a social worker, I have worked with families in a variety of challenging life situations. I have a desire to meet people where they are so they feel seen and heard. We all have struggles and need support at various stages in our lives and I want to be a part of the solution.

My goals for you

My approach for goal setting is to first understand what brought the client to therapy, what interventions they have tried in the past, what have been the challenges and what are their strengths. Together we can explore your strengths and find practical steps to achieving your desired outcome. I can objectively help guide you, as you are your own best expert, to tap into and listen to your intuition.

My first session with you

Our first session will focus on getting to know you, listening and asking questions as well as allowing you the chance to learn more about me as a therapist. There is no one approach so having a good, foundational first visit will assist in how we move forward.
