Hello! It's great to meet you! My name is Kristin Hammond and I am a licensed clinical social worker in the state of North Carolina. I truly love what I do and I have been doing it for 23+ years.
My approach
I tend to use an eclectic approach to therapy, mainly drawing upon CBT along with supportive counseling, solution-focused therapy, mindfulness, and motivational type modalities. I do feel it is important to encompass mental, physical, and spiritual issues on your path to healing and regaining your joy.
My focus
I typically work with adults, couples, and some adolescents. I work with a fairly broad range of issues including anxiety, health anxiety, panic, depression, life stressors, family dysfunction, s relationship issues, self-esteem, and other emotional and behavioral issues.
My communication style
I think one of the biggest keys to success in therapy is having a connection with your therapist. Rapport and trust are crucial in your path to healing. I really work hard to meet people where they are at, show respect and honor their values and belief systems.
My journey to mental healthcare
What initially attracted me to this career is the classic saying, "I want to help people". However, I recently have a new drive and passion for my career. I was diagnosed with a significant health issue that triggered some major depression and anxiety. Honestly, I can say, I understand so much better what my clients are going through. Through very hard work, I personally know that you can have happiness after struggles with depression and anxiety. I want to be able to share that with others and help them along their journey to find happiness.
My goals for you
I do like to set goals for therapy. Your treatment will be based on your needs and at a pace that you are comfortable with. Ultimately, you are the one that develops your goals with assistance from me. It is important we explore what you want to work on and what you want to get out of therapy.
My first session with you
During the first session, I really try to work on developing rapport and trust. Again, your comfort level is very important to me. I will also focus on gathering history and necessary information in order to help me understand your needs better.
