I am Trina McDonald, Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist focusing on anxiety, depression, grief, addiction, and stress disorders from a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approach.
My approach
I am Trina McDonald a Licensed Therapist and Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist with over fifteen years of experience in the field. I have experience working in outpatient care, corrections, with military personnel, and with those living with HIV. I use an eclectic approach yet my theoretical approach foundationally is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
My focus
I work primarily with adult men and women between the ages of twenty and above. I work with substance use disorders, anxiety, depression, grief, and stress.
My communication style
I use talk therapy working from a treatment plan to assist the client to reach Therapeutic gains during treatment. I believe that a strong Therapeutic alliance results in effective treatment and can be nurtured when the client feels valued and is part of a nonjudgmental setting with unconditional positive regard and empathy. I believe in acceptance and promoting strengths as well and believe this important to staying focused on change.
My journey to mental healthcare
My career path started very early as I noticed most people in my class and neighborhood would talk to me about anything and some very personal things. I realized very early that I was using many skills of Therapy-reflective listening, confidentiality, and empathy. Many would return to speak with me knowing that what they told me was not going to be disclosed among others without their permission. I say this career chose me and began preparing me during my junior high school years. I am driven to excel in this field through my love for people and desire to assist in the process to navigate individuals to positive change.
My goals for you
I believe that in setting goals for Therapy that this process should be a collaborative effort. The client will maintain goals developed by them that would be specific and realistic. I believe it is important to focus on goals that feed each part of a being-the emotional, physical, social, spiritual, and mental.
My first session with you
During the first session the client will be informed of the Therapeutic process and given the opportunity to express what they seek to gain while in therapy.
