Hi there, I'm Kimberla!

My name is Kimberla Everett and I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) based in Raleigh, North Carolina and work with clients statewide via telehealth. I work with adults and adolescents and specialize in depression, bipolar disorder, OCD. anxiety, trauma and PTSD. I use Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Acceptance and Commitment, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Solution-Focused Therapy.

My approach

My approach to therapy varies and is based on the needs of each client I work with. I most frequently use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, as both modalities help me and the client build a shared understanding of their reality and allows us to chart a strategic path forward.

My focus

I have found that my style and approach is a good fit for teens and young adults who may be dealing with social and emotional pressures from school, work and other life transition areas. This often takes the form of anxiety, depression and obsessive and compulsive behaviors. I work to help my clients navigate these transition periods and build skills to allow them to feel better about themselves and have a positive self-esteem and self-identity.

My communication style

My communication style is calm, accommodating, and personable. I provide an empathic atmosphere and want my clients to feel comfortable talking with me about anything, especially sensitive matters. I pride myself on actively listening and without judgment.

My journey to mental healthcare

My innermost desire to help people is why I decided to become a therapist. Whether it was working as a counselor at a high school, a family counselor in a foster care program, a peer counselor at an inpatient treatment facility, or just being a trusted friend, I have always been drawn to helping people through difficult times. I enjoy seeing people become the best version of themselves and reach their full potential.

My goals for you

I approach goal setting with clients in a collaborative manner by working together to find out what you want to accomplish in our time together. This is often done in a collaborative manner and starts by cultivating a meaningful relationship with each client. Over time we will work together to track your progress and make changes as needed.

My first session with you

Basically, what to expect from our first session together is mostly spending time talking about your feelings. I would ask a lot of questions to better understand why you feel the way that you do. The first session is all about building rapport and for us to get to know each other better and for me to get a good sense of what's next. My aim is to listen without assuming I know what's best for you.
