My name is Lynn Goldberg, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), providing psychotherapy via telehealth throughout New York State. I have significant experience working with adults of all ages, using a strengths-based, client-centered approach. I employ several modalities, including Solutions Focused, Motivational Interviewing, and psychodynamic therapy, tailoring my work to meet the individual needs of each client as they overcome challenges in their lives.
My approach
I view therapy as a collaborative process, and the client as the expert in themselves. Using Solution Focused Therapy and Motivational Interviewing as the foundation of my therapeutic approach, I have the tools to actively listen to the challenges my clients face, learn about what has worked, and help each individual move in the direction of the goals they set.
My focus
I specialize in working with adults of all ages as they navigate the challenges they experience throughout life's transitions. In therapy, we address feelings of depression, anxiety, and increased stress that can arise or deepen during times of change or loss. The therapy process brings forth personal strengths, builds coping and stress management strategies, and helps shape a positive vision for the future.
My communication style
My communication style is warm, calm, and validating. I strive to listen without judgment, yet I'm not afraid to ask hard questions when the time is right. I believe change happens through a supportive, respectful therapeutic relationship, and this is the environment I work to create.
My journey to mental healthcare
I pursued a career in Social Work after volunteering at a student mental health crisis hotline in college. Although I planned to be a journalist when I graduated, I realized that nothing was more interesting or fulfilling than helping others learn to understand and manage their feelings. I have had a lot of wonderful roles throughout my career, but my work as a clinical social worker has been my true passion.
My goals for you
Goal setting is a collaborative process, led by the client. From the first session, we begin to formulate measurable, achievable goals and objectives that become part of the plan of care. Over time, as the client grows, goals will also evolve.
My first session with you
Our first session is about getting to know one another. I will tell you some things about myself and my experience, and you can expect that I will have questions about who you are and what brings you to therapy at this time. You will not be asked to share anything that you don't wish to share; trust takes time, so building trust and mutual respect will be the tasks of our first sessions.
