Hi there, I'm Lisa!

Hi There, I'm Lisa! I am a New York State Licensed Mental Health Therapist with a background in trauma and teen violence. I am passionate about working with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, and life-transitions in a collaborative way to help to move them toward self-betterment.

My approach

My therapeutic approach is integrative, as there is no one-size-fits-all for a client. However, I often utilize cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral therapy, person-centered therapy, solution-focused therapy, and strength-based therapy. I provided a warm, empathetic, collaborative, non-judgmental environment that will allow you to feel safe and heard as we navigate life’s challenges, explore practical coping skills, and discover hidden strengths you did not know you had. I work collaboratively with my clients to identify treatment goals and plans to ensure their true desires are met throughout therapy.

My focus

I have a special interest in supporting clients experiencing anxiety, depression, anger issues, acculturation struggles, and stress. I also have extensive experience working with risks teens. I am also a culturally competent therapist and have a great rapport with clients regardless of their race, gender, ethnicity, religion, etc.

My communication style

I am an active listener and tend to validate, reframe, and provide emotional support as needed. I am also very warm, empathetic, and non-judgmental. I tend to be intentional about acknowledging opportunities to point out growth and strength.

My journey to mental healthcare

I completed my Master's in Forensic Mental Health Counseling at John Jay College of Criminal Justice with a certification in Victimology Studies. Initially, I became a therapist to help people cope with physical and sexual abuse. I transitioned to working with at risked youths to reduce their likelihood of incarceration, as I was passionate about the school-to-prison pipeline and racial injustices. As the mental health crisis increased, I shifted my focus to working with teens and adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, anger issues, stress, and life transitions to name a few.

My goals for you

I believe that clients are the experts in their experiences, and therefore allow them space to share their presenting concerns and then collaborate with them to identify the most effective treatment goals to help them address those concerns.

My first session with you

Our first session is a chance for the client to share why he or she is seeking therapy and provide some background information so that I am properly informed in a way that allows me to appropriately work with him or her. It is also a chance to discuss HIPAA compliance, treatment expectations, and confidentiality in general. The client can also clarify any questions he or she may have about the process, and contact information is also provided.
