Hi there, I'm Miriam!

Hi! My name is Miriam Azaunce and I am a New York State licensed psychologist who has more than 30 years of experience providing compassionate, culturally sensitive, client-centered treatment to persons 18 years and over. Via telehealth, I utilize evidence-based best practices to treat individuals with wide-ranging emotional and mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, grief and loss, and stress related to health/family/relationship challenges.

My approach

My approach to psychotherapy is eclectic and tailored to the individual. To address my client's concerns, I draw from a range of modalities including cognitive behavioral approach, solution-focused and mindfulness-based therapy, as well as multicultural counseling and psychodynamic psychotherapy.

My focus

Much of my clinical experience involved working with adults dealing with depression, anxiety, grief and loss, stress related to career/health/family/relationship issues, trauma due to childhood abuse, as well as various levels of mental health disturbances.

My communication style

I have been told by my clients that my voice is calming which puts them at ease. My intention is to be compassionate, accepting, understanding, and nonjudgemental.

My journey to mental healthcare

I come from a community where mental illness was always very close to home. I have had a front-row seat to see how devastating, stigma-filled, and under-treated it can be for those afflicted. For this reason, I gravitated towards any training that would prepare me to be of service to those who were affected... to provide a listening ear, acceptance, and teach skills to improve emotional well-being.

My goals for you

I have come to view my work with clients as a collaborative journey, exploring, and challenging where necessary, in an effort to find answers to life’s concerns. It is an opportunity to assist people in increasing self-awareness and understanding of how their core beliefs and values impact their lives. My goal in treatment is to provide a safe environment and to assist in breaking maladaptive patterns of behavior while building on strengths to promote personal growth and positive change.

My first session with you

In our first session together, I will mainly be asking questions, trying to get the big picture about what you have been feeling recently, and helping me to understand what went into your decision to seek help. We will explore your expectations, and begin to establish goals for treatment.
