Hi my name is Mateja Petje and I am a licensed marriage and family therapist however I only provide individual therapy. I have over 20 years of experience and I specialize in PTSD/C-PTSD - childhood abuse and trauma - as well as chronic anxiety, depression, and phobias. I am a trauma survivor and trauma-informed therapist.
My approach
I offer virtual sessions in FL and NY and I am a trauma-informed therapist and a Stress Management coach as well as a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist. In addition to CBT, Brief Solution Focused Therapy, and Attachment-based therapy, I utilize a holistic/integrative medicine approach including hypnosis and NLP, as well as tapping - EFT. I created my own approach to treating C-PTSD.
My focus
I provide individual sessions. I have 20 years of experience with trauma/abuse, mood disorders, anxiety, phobias, OCD., and chronic stress.
My communication style
I am warm and compassionate and I do keep my clients accountable and assign HW including practicing skills.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have always been passionate about helping others. I was born in Slovenia where I obtained my BS in English and education and I moved to Florida in 1997. While being engaged in my own therapy, I decided to become a therapist myself. Looking back, it was a blessing in disguise, as it gave me meaning and purpose after healing from my own trauma. Initially, I specialized in marriage and family therapy, but I discovered that my passion lies in helping people heal from childhood trauma and abuse. This often manifests as chronic anxiety, depression, and relationship challenges. I was not too happy with the results from traditional talk therapy, so over the last 20 years, I developed my own holistic approach that combines cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and solution-focused therapy with energy medicine, neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), and hypnosis.
