Hello, my name is Joseph Ramsey and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I have 23 years of experience in the field and 16 of those 23 years have been spent providing counseling services to families, individuals, and couples. My approach is collaborative and I firmly believe in honesty and transparency. My focus areas are anxiety, depression, problems related to anxiety and depression (i.e. obsessive compulsive disorder), and trauma.
My approach
I am a classically trained Cognitive Behavioral Therapist (CBT), this was the focus of my graduate work. I have expanded my skill set and can provide Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Motivational Interviewing. I tend to be solution focused in my approach and I enjoy helping people solve problems.
My focus
I am most comfortable treating anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorders, bipolar I and II, mood disorders, grief, complex trauma, and anger issues.
My communication style
I am very direct and honest in my communication style. I am very affirming about clients problems and how they feel, but I will always ask people if they are sure their thinking is correct and offer possible alternatives to their perceptions. I am humorous, friendly, and gentle.
My journey to mental healthcare
I love people. I love helping people. I do not believe that people are inherently bad, and I believe that recovery is real. My father died suddenly when I was 11 and my mom raised my sister and I without any help from anyone. I decided that I would do anything I could to help others in that position. My family has a history of anxiety and depressive disorders and I wanted to help others overcome these issues so that they can live their best lives.

Goal setting starts during the first session as soon as we are finished with the assessment.
My first session with you
The first session is always an assessment - a full psychosocial so that I can get to know the individual and understand their problem by understanding where they came from, how they got here, and who they are.
