Hi there, I'm JayDene!

My name is JayDene Albert RN, LCSW-R. It has been my pleasure to join in my clients' journey through life's challenges and joys. I believe that this vocation is a calling, spiritual as well as physical. Most of us desire to be content with ourselves and others. Therapy is an outlet to achieve this outcome.

My approach

My approach to therapy is holistic. I am warm, supportive and direct when need be. Using several models including CBT, MI, REBT, EBT, and "Stages of Change" by Prochaska and DiClemente. A client's needs should dictate the approach.

My focus

My client's are often dually diagnosed. Clients dealing with medical and emotional conditions that are exacerbated by the other. Common medical issues including heart disease, cancer, AIDS, HIV, COVID and end-of-life issues can lead to depression and anxiety or vice versa.

My communication style

It is important to provide a safe environment with open discussions about client concerns. Very often my clients are unable to communicate their concerns with family or close friends, because of the nature of their problems. I tell my clients that coming to therapy should feel "like an old slipper." Finding comfort, concern and warmth during these times is helpful. An understanding of medical conditions, tests, medications and treatments are a teaching opportunity.

My journey to mental healthcare

In 1979, I was the Head Nurse at a local long-term Health Related Facility. Many of the residents had a long history of mental health issues. We interfaced with the Mental Health Services of that area. One day, the Chief of Psychiatry asked me if I would be interested in starting a Geriatric Psychiatric Unit at my facility. We developed a program and trained staff to treat this population, I went on to do nursing in several mental health units and was encouraged by my peers to further my education. I graduated from the University of Buffalo in 2000. Worked as a Co-occurring Illness Specialist ever since.

My goals for you

A treatment plan, during the assessment process, is a goal-orientated agreement between the client and myself. We agree on how and why we need to approach therapy, and set a marker for the desired outcome in treatment.

My first session with you

A Biopsychosocial assessment is ideal. A treatment plan agreed upon by the client and myself is to be created and the Client would be provided with the parameters of my practice and contact information.
