My journey to mental healthcare
I have been in recovery from alcohol and drug addiction since 1988. I quicky began working as a tech at the recovery center I got sober through. Over the years, I have worked in various inpatient facilities, but truly found my passion for helping people after completing my Bachelor's degree in Accounting and finding myself very unfulfilled in that field. I returned to school to pursue a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy when I rediscovered the passion I felt previously in life. Once I started on that path I have not looked back. I completed my degree in 2009 and immediately worked in community mental health completing 3,000 hours of supervision toward licensure. While there, I worked primarily with clients through The Oklahoma Drug Court Program. I worked for various agencies after obtaining my licenses in 2011 (LPC) and 2012 (LADC) and started a private practice in 2013. In 2015 I began working in private practice full time and I have helped nearly 1,000 clients over that time. I love the work I do and I cherish the trust that people place with me in helping them recover.
My goals for you
I work with my clients in the initial session to help them identify in their words what their goals for therapy may be. I periodically review these goals to ensure we remain on the same page and focused in the direction my client wants to go.
My first session with you
A first session is a question and answer sessions. I typically review the types of therapy I utilize, review any assessments I have provided (prior to the first session) and discuss the results of those sessions. I ask questions about presenting problems, history of any mental health, substance abuse and physical health concerns. I inquire about family histories and current relationships. I conclude with a diagnostic impression and inquire what the client goals for treatment may be and address objectives that will enable the client to meet their stated goals for therapy.
