Hi there, I'm Mark!

Hello. My name is Mark Whitney and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. My Goal in therapy is to help you live your life intentionally. Con Spirito. With Spirit. That is how most of us want to live our lives, with energy and purpose, spending our time doing those things that bring us joy and meaning, pursuing our dreams, aspiring to be the best versions of ourselves that we can be.

My approach

Practicing an eclectic approach combining elements of cognitive, behavioral, and solution-focused therapies, my goal is to help my clients achieve their personal wellness goals. I utilize a variety techniques and strategies from CBT, DBT, ACT, mindfulness and strengths-based solution-focused schools of thought in my work. An overarching belief of mine is that wellbeing starts with connecting to and acting on those things that are most important to us. From this, we start to feel invigorated and inspired, living life intentionally with energy and purpose.

My focus

I work with individual adult clients presenting with a variety of issues including depression, anxiety, problems with making adjustments to changing life circumstances, stress, anger management, and difficulties connecting to and acting on personal values. I work to both empower and invigorate my clients to take positive, life-affirming actions that move their life forward in a direction that is meaningful and satisfying for them.

My communication style

My approach is very casual, easy-going and equalitarian. I like to engage clients in a conversation that promotes understanding, relatedness and connection. As they say in ACT, "we are in this stew together." I work hard to work in a partnership as opposed to a one-up, one-down relationship with my client.

My journey to mental healthcare

I have always enjoyed helping people deal with the difficulties and challenges they face. I've been drawn to being a support for others from an early age, being a source of encouragement for friends and family before moving on to doing this as a professional. I was raised and educated by many amazing people who promoted my interests in others and in the value of the collective well-being of all of us.

My goals for you

I work in tandem with my clients to identify meaningful treatment goals. My focus is on helping my clients connect with what they value most in life and provide them tools to help them act on these things consistently in order to build a life worth living.

My first session with you

A casual conversation to discuss not only the presenting issue of problem, but an opportunity for both of to learn more about each other to ensure we are a good fit and will make progress working together on their treatment goals.
