Hi, My name is Cathleen Kimmel and I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas. I work with adults and adolescents in a very collaborative manner to help them find happiness and joy in life. My areas of focus include depression, anxiety, bipolar, low self-esteem, relationship issues, pregnancy/postpartum, grief, LGBTQ+ and other difficult life adjustments.
My approach
I use a person-center approach with a mixture of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Emotionally-focused Therapy to help clients meet their treatment goals. I work collaboratively with my clients to ensure that progress is made and that clients are getting what they need from therapy.
My focus
I love working with adults and adolescents who are ready to make positive changes in their lives. My areas of focus include depression, anxiety, bipolar, low self-esteem, relationship issues, pregnancy/postpartum, grief, LGBTQ+ and other difficult life adjustments.
My communication style
I set a very non-judgmental and supportive tone early on in therapy. I want to get to know my clients, work with them to understand reasons for current struggles and then figure out how to make positive changes.
My journey to mental healthcare
I've always had strong emotional intelligence, which led me to pick up on/observe others' emotional states and then want to have honest conversations with them about things going on in their lives. I really enjoy being a support for other people and working with them to help create lasting change.
My goals for you
My clients get to create their own goals and we work on things that they want to work on. I might make suggestions based on what I observe, but the client gets to choose what we focus on.
My first session with you
In the first session, I will ask questions about current problems, the history of these problems and get a family history. At the end of the session, we will discuss a potential diagnosis, treatment goals and frequency of treatment.
