Hello! My name is Melissa Sanders, and I am a determined Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 13 years of experience. I began my career working in community mental health in 2010 and have experience helping children and families grappling with defiant behaviors, drug use, hyperactivity, inattention, criminal activity, time management, relationships, maternal mental health, work-life balance, divorce, trauma, anxiety, and depression to name a few. I have dedicated the majority of my career to advocacy within the military community.
My approach
I help my clients of all ages to improve their overall well-being and functioning to achieve their desired goals. My approach is client and family-centered. I know that every client and situation is different so no single approach is right for everyone. I focus on evidence-based therapies, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.
My focus
Therapy is a joint venture to find and build healthy perceptions of self while strengthening relationships with others. I give clients the tools to create healthy relationships with the hope for them to find clarity, peace, and resolution.
My communication style
I will be your ongoing support through some of life’s hardships and psychological struggles.
My journey to mental healthcare
My educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Master of Social Work from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, KY. I became a therapist because I care deeply about others and value the ability to improve and influence other people’s lives.
My goals for you
A good therapeutic relationship includes honesty, trust, freedom to express yourself, and goal-driven successful outcomes. In our first or second session, we will set goals that we will often refer to. Some of these will naturally come up. I will remain flexible so that you get the most out of the session.
My first session with you
During our first session, I will ask questions about your presenting concerns, as well as your history and background. We will talk about your current symptoms or struggles, as well as discuss a little about your relationships, your interests, your strengths, and your goals.
