My name is Dana Spencer, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) with a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology. I am based in San Antonio, Texas, and work with clients statewide via telehealth. I work with adults and specialize in anxiety, stress, and depression. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Client-Centered Therapy to help them find peace and balance in their lives.
My approach
My approach to therapy is client-centered. I most frequently use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Client-Centered Therapy, as these methods help me and the client build a shared understanding of their reality and allow us to work together to chart a path forward.
My focus
I have found that my style and approach are a good fit for adults who may be dealing with the challenges of life, family, children, blended families, and work stress. I work to help my clients navigate these concerns and to build skills to allow them to feel better about themselves and develop a more positive outlook on life.
My communication style
My communication style is calm, accommodating, and personable. I want my clients to feel comfortable talking with me about anything and to feel heard.
My journey to mental healthcare
I decided to become a therapist because I have always wanted to help people. Whether it was being a counselor at an inner city community center, working as a management consultant to huge corporations, or as a crisis counselor. I enjoy helping people become solution-creators in their own lives.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting with clients is solution focused. We will work together to define what you want to accomplish in our time together. In our first sessions, I will listen to your concerns as we build trust between us, and you will develop an understanding of what it means to be in therapy. Over time, we’ll work together to set goals and track your progress.
My first session with you
Every client is different, and so is their counseling experience. In the first session with me, I will introduce myself and ask you what circumstances have brought you to counseling. I want genuinely want to know how you are doing, what you are feeling, and what you have been experiencing. From there, we will start working towards setting goals as we move forward in the therapeutic process.
