I have been in clinical practice as a therapist for over 7 years. Before that, I was in teaching parenting and marriage classes and life skills since I was 21. I've spent most of my adult life learning to help people overcome life's challenges. I am married and have 6 children.
My approach
My approach to individual therapy is practical and generally focuses on an individual's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This approach looks at learning new ways of thinking and behaviors to improve a person's everyday experience. I work to incorporate what will work best for each client. My theoretical approach is called Cognitive-behavioral therapy.
My focus
Clients I see are usually struggling with couple/relationship problems, parenting difficulty, blended family issues, anger, anxiety, adjusting to difficult life issues, and depression. Most clients are not enjoying life and want help making some changes and finding their way through pain, circumstances, and difficulty. About half of my clients are looking for a therapist who can identify with a Christian/Biblical perspective as well. I am currently only offering Teletherapy.
My communication style
Life is not easy, and I believe there is a point in time when everyone needs help. You will find I'm easy to talk to, and I strive to provide a safe place to explore difficult issues, circumstances, and emotions. My personality is laid back and nonjudgmental. Most people stated that I am very easy to talk to.
My journey to mental healthcare
I was drawn to therapy after my life was changed at 21 by an amazing mentor. His mentor was a therapist. The way he treated his wife, kids, strangers, and enemies really helped me to change my perspective and lifestyle. I then found myself in many situations, one on, one helping people.
My goals for you
We will work toward the goal of understanding emotions, thoughts, triggers, and behaviors. As my client's become more aware of how you they react or respond to their world, they feel empowered to begin to change the way they think or perceive triggers and learn to respond in healthy ways that help them feel better about life. Most of my goals in relationship issues deal with increasing healthy communication and finding ways to identify solutions to work toward.
My first session with you
The first session with me is helping you to explore the reasons you want therapy and the problems that you are struggling with. This gives us information to begin setting goals for therapy. I will ask some questions about current emotions and behaviors that are troubling you as well as some past history, to understand how things may have begun.
