Hi, my name is Amelia Johnson M.S. LPC NCC. I am an EMDRIA approved EMDR trained therapist in Texas. I seek to empower clients with the knowledge of their already existing strengths as well as help them to heal past wounds and learn healthy ways to move forward that will promote continued growth and confidence.
My approach
I have an eclectic approach to therapy and it varies depending on the client and their specific needs. Some of the most common approaches I use are CBT, ACT, DBT, EMDR, and Person-Centered.
My focus
Some of the populations I work with are those with anxiety, OCD, ADHD as well as those with past trauma or current life stressors. I enjoy working with adolescents and older. I work with families and couples in addition to individuals.
My communication style
The most important environment I strive to create in sessions is a nonjudgmental and open space to talk freely. I believe in providing unconditional positive regard which means that whatever is said or felt in a session is okay and valid.
My journey to mental healthcare
I've always known that I've wanted to be helpful to others and it's always been hard for me to see people not be able to see their true worth, strength, and potential. I enjoy being a therapist because I can feel the connection we all share as we all try our best in the human experience. I want to help others feel empowered and encouraged and in the process, it continues to infuse hope into my own life as I see people grow and heal.
My goals for you
I believe that clients are the best experts on themselves so it's my focus to see your goals and help you in creating a measurable goal and plan with a roadmap that gives clarity on how treatment will move forward.
My first session with you
A first session, it's my opportunity to get information on you about your background and the presenting issue that is bringing you in. I may ask questions to gather specific information and towards the end of the session, we'll talk about what you can expect from sessions moving forward as well as a basic plan for treatment.
