My name is Danielle McGowan, and I am Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I have experience working with young adults, individuals, and families in their crisis, trauma, or desire for change. I specialize in adjustment, trauma, grief, anxiety, and understanding behavior patterns that are set from childhood and family systems. Suicidal ideation, depression, life change, and chronic mental health diagnosis are also some of my expertise.
My approach
The most common practices include cognitive behavioral therapy, emotionally focused therapy, solution-focused, motivational interviewing, and grief work. I appreciate using psychodynamic and family systems therapies in order to help my clients understand their engrained understanding of the world around them from their past experiences.
My focus
I am comfortable working with various levels of trauma and life experiences. I am also comfortable working with first responders, health and wellness professionals, educators, veterans, students, parents, grandparents, and people handling unexpected life changes.
My communication style
I provide an easy-to-engage environment that is down-to-earth and client-led. Things are discussed at a pace comfortable for the client. Telepsych sessions only, which allow for sessions to be held conveniently.
My journey to mental healthcare
I found psychology interesting from an early age in high school. I didn't understand why emotional intelligence and skills to better handle emotions and how to deal with problems in life weren't taught in public education. I pursued becoming a therapist in the hope of helping people have a different life if that's what they wanted.
My goals for you
Throughout the first session, goals are set, which are made through cooperation with the client based on their needs.
My first session with you
Clients will have a warm welcome and be able to engage at a comfortable level. A brief background and history will be gathered with goals or possible treatment opportunities discussed as they are mentioned.
