My name is Melody Hatter, LCSW, Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Texas and also Iowa and my mission is to provide clients insight into themselves and their situations and to challenge and encourage them to view life from a new perspective. Focus areas of practice are with adults 18 and up who experience depression, anxiety, substance use and/or suicidal ideation.
My approach
I approach therapy from a person centered perspective helping clients to see all options while allowing them to determine what they want and in their own time. Through Cognitive behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and utilizing the Gottman Method with couples, I have motivated many to engage in change.
My focus
I typically work with individuals and couples who experience low self-esteem, have trouble with setting boundaries, overthink, don't love themselves, engage in unhealthy communication in their relationships, are going through a breakup and/or are overwhelmed by life stressors. I am comfortable treating depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, addiction, hoarding and those with bipolar disorder.
My communication style
I provide a safe, compassionate and empathic environment in sessions. Clients will feel empowered. I am genuine and that will be evident the first time we meet.
My journey to mental healthcare
During my graduate internship at UTSW Zale Lipshy Inpatient Psychiatric Unit in Dallas, Texas I discovered my passion working with individuals living with mental health issues as they were also navigating day to day stressors. Being a therapist allows for making a bigger impact working directly with those in need.
My goals for you
Goal setting is determined by clients with guidance and encouragement.
My first session with you
First session is generally for clients to ask questions and to assess current major stressors as to the need for therapy and what client's expectations are for future sessions.
