Not currently accepting patients

Hi there, I'm Jessica!

Hello, My name is Jessica Mitchell, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who provides mental health and relationship counseling to couples. My approach is one of patience and understanding, even where there may not be agreeance, as I focus on the client's experiences and hone in on blind spots the clients are unaware of and that may be presented as problematic.

My approach

I take a client-centered, experiential approach that allows the incorporation of the whole person and their experiences to be seen, heard, challenged, and corrected to create a new narrative for now and learn how to update that narrative as they grow out of who they are currently becoming.

My focus

I work primarily with adults dealing with self-esteem and acceptance matters, as well as clients from ostracized and oppressed communities, including those dealing with racial trauma, LGBTQIA+ issues, and alternative lifestyle concerns.

My communication style

I create an environment of collaboration. YOU are the expert in the current form of you while I bring my skills and expertise to create an environment of unlearning and relearning in order to live fully as self as opposed to societal creation. I hold space to show up authentically and will continue to encourage that in any form. Nothing here is too wild or taboo as I believe this should be the safest place you have, second to being with yourself and trusting others. I believe even with those we love and trust, some things can be hard to share with them until we have figured them out fully for self, and therapy should be a space in which you do not have to hold back anything from fear of Judgement or lack of understanding. Openness and transparency are, and what are provided here, with a space to fully explore the parts of self we otherwise hide away.

My journey to mental healthcare

I have been told this path was a calling as I have always been one willing to listen, willing to accept, and willing to challenge. I know that life is filled with trials, and not all conditions allow for the best outcome. But these are not determinants of the person you are or would like to become. This is what drives me to this work; instilling belief in self-actualization, along with the knowledge that the journey and the destination are not the same, are some of my values.

My goals for you

While I do approach goal setting using the SMART approach, what is more, important is creating the understanding that you need to have a solid foundation for the new goals you would like to create. The goals you would come to create are not meant for your current space, and thus, there will be additional upgrades to tend to so you are standing on the type of foundation necessary for the goals.

My first session with you

The first session is a chance to hear you out and for you to see if you believe I have the type of energy and approach that fits your needs. I want to get to know you, but I understand that is also a process and does not happen fully from one session alone. That session is meant to make sure I can help you and for you to decide if you not only believe the same but find comfort in me taking this journey with you.
