My name is Colleen Christie. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Texas. The primary focus of my practice is relationship issues including break-ups, divorce, couples therapy, toxic relationships and even "lack of relationship" issues. I also treat disorders that are frequently the consequences of difficult personal/family relationships including grief, anxiety, poor self-esteem, depression and trauma.
My approach
Multiple modalities are used in my practice based on the needs and preferences of the client. I most commonly use a systems and existential approach to therapy. Other theoretical approaches I draw from include CBT, EMDR, Mindfulness, Gestalt therapy, hypnosis, and trauma models when needed.
My focus
I typically work with adults or adolescents on counseling issues resulting from family/personal interactions including poor self-esteem, trauma, anxiety, and depression.
My communication style
I like to provide a calm, supportive environment where my clients feel safe to share whatever is important to them. My clients know they will always be accepted, supported and respected without any judgment.
My journey to mental healthcare
Becoming a therapist was a natural path for me. I was always the one friends would turn to in school when they had something important or stressing to discuss. I have always had an interest in people and want to help others be happier, After years of practice, I am still fascinated with interpersonal relationships and how we interact with one another. As a Clinical Supervisor of new therapists, my excitement in my profession is constantly renewed.
My goals for you
As appropriate, I support my clients in setting personal goals, not goals set by others. We take steps to identify goals, break them down to achievable steps and identify ways the goals are sabotaged by the client or others.
My first session with you
During the first session my clients can expect a supportive, open and encouraging environment. Time is taken to get to know each client individually and begin where they are. There is no predetermined format or expectation as clients evolve in their own time. Following the first session my clients confirm their comfort and confidence in working with me as a therapist.
