Hi there, I'm Jennifer!

I am Jennifer Jacobs, and I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). My counseling style is pretty laid back, and I have been described as supportive, caring, empathetic, and compassionate. I like to focus on identifying your strengths and helping you to maximize them to overcome your obstacles.

My approach

Everyone is different and therefore my therapeutic approach is eclectic. This approach incorporates a variety of therapeutic principles in order to meet the specific needs of each individual client. I specifically enjoy using, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Positive Psychology, and Client-Centered Therapy.

My focus

I have counseled adults in the areas of anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and family issues. I have experience providing individual, group, family, and couples therapy in the areas of victimization, trauma, coping skills, forgiveness, self-esteem, conflict resolution, family reunification, and relapse prevention.

My communication style

The ultimate goal of your counseling experience is to acquire the tools to promote positive change for personal growth and to positively cope with life events. I consider myself to be warm, down-to-earth, and approachable. I love to look at the perspective of others in order to understand them and communicate with them more effectively. I'm here to help you sort through the things that are difficult right now, and offer you a safe place to be open and honest without fear of judgment. You have taken the first and most important step by reaching out for help.

My journey to mental healthcare

I became an LPC for a couple of reasons. The first reason is because my mother suffered from mental illness, and I wanted to understand her better. Understanding her allowed me to have empathy for her, and possibly see things from her perspective. The second reason I became an LPC is the majority of my life, I was the go-to person for advice or guidance from my friends, coworkers, mother, and other family members. I thought I should try following a career path that I was comfortable with, that I would enjoy, and one that is fulfilling and rewarding.

My goals for you

I look forward to working with you to create a plan after accessing your needs and concerns. Working with you will allow me to make sure that we have a shared understanding of what you would like help with.

My first session with you

During our initial session, we will talk about what led you to counseling and discuss any therapeutic goals you would like to achieve. In addition, I use this opportunity to get to know you and build a rapport to make sure we are a good fit for a positive therapeutic relationship.
