My name is Anthony Shannon. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, and my goal is to provide a safe place for us to work on the issues which make life uncomfortable.
My approach
I approach therapy with empathy and compassion, and a big dose of humor. I utilize a wide range of modalities, from cognitive behavioral therapy to existential therapy. Treatment should be fit for the individual, and an eclectic approach allows for that.
My focus
While I work with a wide range of clients and, therefore, a wide range of presenting problems, my background is in trauma, anxiety, depression, and difficulties with mood. I have a large amount of experience with childhood and chronic trauma.
My communication style
I seek to create an active therapeutic relationship by focusing on a gentle approach to treatment. Therapy does not need to be painful, but it does need to feel safe in order to work on tough issues. I also find that laughter can be incredibly healing, and I try to incorporate it when possible.
My journey to mental healthcare
I am a therapist because I believe in the beauty of humans. I believe people often suffer alone because the discomforts of the mind isolate us from others. I gain immense satisfaction in helping people find peace.
My goals for you
Clients are the true experts of their own lives. As such, it is necessary for clients to help create reasonable, attainable goals within the parameters of their daily needs.
My first session with you
I like to get a nice broad sense of what led the client into therapy. But I also want to know about the client's life: their interests, their preferences, and their support system. I also take time in the first session to provide some information about myself and what therapy looks like working with me.
