Hi there! I'm Nydra. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who is committed to walking with my clients through their 'therapeutic journey'.
My approach
My approach is client-focused. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your life. By applying complementary therapy approaches and techniques, we will unearth long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life.
My focus
I'm open to working with all types of clients. However, I'm comfortable with women and teenagers.
My communication style
Clients can expect to experience a warm, empathetic, and welcoming environment when working with me. Clients are allowed to freely express themselves in a non-judgmental manner
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey to becoming a therapist started in undergraduate school. While completing my degree, I interned in Probation Services at Juvenile Court. My goal was to become a probation officer for the State of Illinois. However, I quickly realized that I did not enjoy placing home confinement bracelets on kids. In addition, it would be difficult for families to trust or let their guard down to allow me to help. Therefore, once I graduated, I went back to grad school and obtained my master's in social work. I realized that I could do better work with children and families, by partnering with them in a different capacity.
My goals for you
It is very important that clients are included in developing their treatment plan and setting their goals for therapy. This allows the client to feel empowered, along with helping to understand their needs are being heard.
My first session with you
The first session is information gathering. This is done by allowing the client to tell their story of what brought them into treatment and how their story has been impacting their daily functioning. Clients can expect encouragement, an empathetic ear, and someone who is willing to help.
