Hi there, I'm Earnell!

Hello, my name is Earnell McGhaney II, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor licensed in both Texas and South Carolina. My approach to therapy is to provide my clients with the tools needed to liberate them from their suffering. To that effect, I challenge and push my client's out of their comfort zones to help them reach new heights. My specialty areas are couples/marriage counseling and Trauma Counseling, but I also treat a number of other issues as well.

My approach

My goal is to help my clients reach the treatment goals that they have for themselves. In treating trauma, I use Somatic Experiencing, EMDR, and trauma-focused CBT. In treating my couples, I use the Gottman Method. I also use cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and other modalities in treating other issues my clients may be dealing with.

My focus

I typically work with clients that are motivated for treatment and ready to see a change in their life. The conditions that I am most comfortable treating are trauma/PTSD, marital/couple issues, anxiety, depression, and addiction.

My communication style

The therapeutic relationship is extremely important to me, so I try to create a safe and welcoming environment for my clients. I have been told that working with me is like working with a close friend. I am not going to tell you want to hear but rather what you need to hear to get you to where you want to be.

My journey to mental healthcare

I have always been the person that everyone would come and tell their problems too. I honestly enjoyed listening to them and helping them out if I could. This was the beginning of my journey. Once I graduated and began counseling, it was challenging, but it was so rewarding to see how happy they were to make even small continuous progress toward their goals. It is my desire to help my clients reach their goals that continue to drive me to do this work.

My goals for you

Goal setting is a team effort between the client and myself. In our initial session, I always ask clients what goals they want to achieve through counseling. Once I have this, I tell them what I believe some good goals are, and then we discuss them to come up with the goals for our treatment plan.

My first session with you

Our first session is really focused on us getting to know one another as it is the beginning of the therapeutic relationship. We will talk about what brings the client to therapy and gather much of their history. I try never to let my clients leave the first session without having learned some skills to help them begin making progress toward their goals.
