I earned an undergraduate degree in social work while on a full academic scholarship package at TCU as a John V. Roach Honors College program participant. Afterward, I enrolled at The King’s University and earned a graduate certificate in biblical studies with high honors, then a Master of Marriage and Family Therapy with high honors.
My approach
I believe that mental and emotional health are just as important as that of our physical bodies. I approach this process with individualistic, systemic, and holistic perspectives, and am equipped to do so with a faith-based foundation, if it suits the client—the goals and preferences of the clients are central to my process.
My focus
Alcohol/Substance Use, Children Ages 8-17, Codependency, Coping Skills, Depression, Emotional Disturbance, Job Stress, Relapse Prevention, Life Coaching, Marital and Premarital, Parenting, Relationship Issues, Self Esteem, Spirituality
My communication style
I tend to be laid-back and oriented more toward listening, clarifying, and understanding. When appropriate, I also provide information to the clients in keeping with my knowledge base, background, and expertise, especially when doing so can be helpful to them.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have a deep desire to help people, in general. I am an autodidact and a committed, lifelong learner. I feel blessed to have found a field that I know is my calling. On a professional level, my personal goal is to be of maximum usefulness to my clients. On a personal level, I try to prioritize my responsibilities in a manner that best facilitates balance in all areas of my life, especially in my role as a professional counselor.
My goals for you
My primary goal is to understand the needs and priorities of the client, then to partner with them effectively to create and implement a plan of action to help them meet their goals. For folks who are not as goal-directed, I focus more on helping the clients to process the things that prompted them to seek counseling in the first place.
My first session with you
In the beginning, my priority was to help my clients to be at ease, especially to help them in sharing what brought them to me. As I do so, I explore the nature of what they express more deeply, especially from the perspective of determining my suitability to work with them effectively in light of my expertise and experience.
