I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in both Texas and Louisiana. I see counseling as a process in which you, the client, and I, the counselor, having come to understand and trust one another, work as a team to explore and define present problem situations, develop future goals for improved life and work systemically toward realizing these goals.
My approach
I approach counseling from a cognitive-behavioral perspective in that patterns of thoughts and actions are explored in order to understand the client’s perspective better and to develop solutions. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused, Reality therapy, EMDR, and DBT are used when applicable. These strategies are used to encourage accountability within the individual.
My focus
I have a special interest in working with individuals healing from trauma (both past and present), anxiety, depression, and addiction issues. I have significant experience working with the opiate-addicted population, having spent 6.5 years providing services in a MAT program.
My communication style
I am a non-directive therapist that will attempt to meet you where you are. I take pride in being non-judgmental and providing an environment where clients feel safe and secure in being their authentic selves. I believe that trust and genuineness are the bedrock of the therapeutic relationship. My role is to facilitate discussion and guide you on your journey to finding answers within yourself.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey began with an interest in why people do what they do. That soon turned into an interest in helping guide people to answers and solutions to problems in their lives. I completed my undergraduate degree in psychology with a minor in forensic psychology at Texas State University- San Marcos in 2006. I then pursued my graduate degree at Louisiana State University- Shreveport, where I graduated with honors in 2009. The reward of helping people create and sustain change in their lives is what continues to drive my passion today.
My goals for you
I am here to assist you in setting realistic and attainable goals for yourself. We will discuss, set, and review goals routinely throughout the therapy process.
My first session with you
It is a chance to get to know one another and to determine if we both feel it is a good fit. I will obtain background information and review the process of therapy. Our first session is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you might have for me. During this session, we will discuss your ultimate therapy goals and take the first steps necessary toward healing.
