My job is to create a safe, trusting, and inviting environment for your therapy to happen. Whether you are seeking help with past trauma, having problems with your mood, or just feeling stuck in your life, therapy should offer ideas, insights, and experience that can help to change the narrative of your life.
My approach
I believe that every client has their own unique wisdom and perspective. Changes in one's life occur when these skills are explored and assisted to become the drivers for new thoughts and behaviors. My therapeutic approach draws from Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Family Systems, Mindfulness-Based, Strength-Based, Trauma Focused, and Structural Family Therapy modalities. I provide therapy that is culturally sensitive and tailored to your individual needs.
My focus
I am willing to see individuals, families, couples, and minors (ages 13-17). My areas of specialty include working with adolescents/teens, addiction, codependency, anxiety, depression, family conflict, autism or Asperger's syndrome, mood disorders, emotional disturbance, relapse prevention, coping skills, trauma and PTSD, school issues, divorce, and women's issues.
My communication style
I communicate with warmth, empathy, and authenticity to create an open and collaborative environment. My style balances active listening with thoughtful questions and reflections to help you gain clarity and insight. I adapt my approach to your unique needs, always aiming to make you feel heard, understood, and empowered on your therapeutic journey.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey to mental healthcare began with obtaining my Master of Social Works degree. My early years were spent in the public mental health system. The variety of cases encountered in these agencies provided a wide array of experience and grew my expertise. The supervision I received was outstanding and when I received my license to practice independently in January 2000 I felt well prepared to begin practicing in private settings. Having raised a child on the Autism Spectrum to become a fully functioning adult, I feel especially qualified to assist both families and young adults in navigating the path into adulthood. My early training in a family therapy program also allows me to competently work with families and couples.
My goals for you
After more than 20 years of helping clients, my goal is to assist you with a wide range of challenges by creating a therapeutic environment that fosters personal growth and positive change. I aim to help you explore your own unique wisdom and perspective, developing the skills and insights needed to overcome obstacles and thrive.
My first session with you
In our first session, we will begin to create a safe, trusting relationship that invites open and honest communication. I will take time to understand your unique situation, challenges and goals for therapy. Together, we will start to develop a plan that builds on your strengths and offers you new ways of thinking about and approaching the concerns that brought you to therapy. You can expect me to be attentive, engaged, and committed to supporting your journey towards healing and personal growth.
