Hi there, I'm LeRoyal!

LeRoyal Parker is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a Master in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Theoretical approaches I use to draw from a range of evidence-based approaches, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT).

My approach

My approach to providing therapy is to work collaboratively with clients to help them achieve their goals and improve their overall well-being. I believe that therapy is a personal and unique process that requires a personalized approach tailored to the individual's specific needs and circumstances. My goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where clients can explore their concerns and work towards their goals using evidence-based techniques and approaches.

My focus

I believe that sometimes a smile can hide the pain that you would not want to share with anyone else. Anxiety issues, self-esteem issues, and even family issues can lead to difficulty forming lasting and healthy relationships, both personal and intimate. Most often, it is difficult to let someone into those hidden places. Let me assist you with the proven tools needed to identify and address those challenges. Together, we can begin to build the foundations to overcome these issues and create healthy personal and social relationships.

My communication style

As a therapist, creating a safe and supportive environment is essential for establishing a positive therapeutic relationship. I strive to create a non-judgmental, empathetic, and collaborative atmosphere in my therapy sessions where clients feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and feelings. In my sessions, I aim to be warm, compassionate, and attentive to my clients' needs. I encourage open and honest communication and actively listen to my clients to fully understand their perspectives and concerns. Working with me should feel like a supportive and collaborative process. Clients should feel heard, validated, and respected, and I strive to work collaboratively with them to identify goals and develop a personalized treatment plan to help them achieve those goals. Overall, my aim is to create a safe and welcoming space where clients can feel comfortable exploring their thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a way that promotes healing and growth.

My journey to mental healthcare

I was attracted to the field of counseling as it aligns with my desire to help others improve their mental health and overall well-being. I continue to work in this field due to my natural inclination toward empathy, compassion, and active listening. I am drawn to the idea of providing a safe and supportive space for people to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences.

My goals for you

As a therapist, I believe that setting goals is an essential component of the therapeutic process. I approach goal-setting with clients by first helping them identify their unique strengths, values, and motivations. Together, we explore the client's current challenges and concerns and then collaboratively develop a set of specific, achievable, and meaningful goals that align with the client's values and desires. When setting goals with clients, I emphasize the importance of setting goals that are SMART: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-bound. We work together to create a plan that includes measurable and achievable steps toward the client's goals, identifying potential obstacles and ways to overcome them. I also regularly check in with my clients throughout the therapeutic process to evaluate their progress toward their goals and make any necessary adjustments to their treatment plan. My goal is to help clients achieve their desired outcomes while empowering them with the skills and tools they need to maintain their progress beyond therapy.

My first session with you

During a first session with me as a therapist, clients should expect to engage in a collaborative and exploratory conversation about their presenting concerns, background, and goals for therapy. The purpose of this initial session is to establish a therapeutic relationship, gather information, and develop an initial treatment plan. I typically begin by introducing myself and explaining the therapy process, including issues of confidentiality and informed consent. I then invite the client to share their reasons for seeking therapy, their current symptoms and challenges, and any relevant personal history. Throughout the session, I will actively listen and ask questions to clarify and deepen my understanding of the client's concerns. I may also ask questions to explore the client's strengths, coping strategies, and support systems. Toward the end of the session, I will work collaboratively with the client to identify goals for therapy and develop a personalized treatment plan. I may provide some initial feedback, insights, and suggestions for the client to consider and offer guidance on what to expect in future sessions. Overall, clients should expect a supportive and non-judgmental environment where they can explore their concerns and work towards their goals in a collaborative and empathetic partnership with their therapist.
