Joy Henry, LCSW, utilizes a person-centered, strength-based, and integrative approach to therapy practice. My approach is authentic, creative, adaptable, and, most importantly, open and safe to promote a collaborative healing process.
My approach
My approach is integrative and includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-focused CBT, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and empowerment therapy. My practice is grounded in strength-based, solution-focused, and humanistic modalities.
My focus
I focus on addressing depression, anxiety, trauma, issues of self-identity, esteem, developmental life-stage challenges, relationship/familial issues, and the mental health experiences of women. I work with older adolescents to older adults ages 17-55.
My communication style
I have a comforting, supportive, and personable style. Sitting with me feels like a natural conversation with collective and meaningful exploration and discovery.
My journey to mental healthcare
I was a clinical consultant for outpatient services and provided several years of emergency mental health services to older-age youth and adults in crisis. I previously worked as a social worker in adolescent psychiatry and medical social work, in addition to group therapy and individual therapy with teens challenged by anxiety, depression, and compulsive disorders. As a therapist, I embrace the unique authenticity of each person, thus, employing a lens based on intersectionality. I am passionate about mental health because I believe in the power of supportive and helpful alliances in the journey of healing and resilience. I believe mental health as a priority is the best chance for any of us to have a fuller and more functional life. I am driven by a belief in empowerment.
My goals for you
I encourage clients to take the lead each session and honor the utility of agenda setting as fundamental to my practice.
My first session with you
Clients should expect an introduction intended to learn more about them. Clients can expect an emphasis on their personal goals for therapy and the prioritization of their self-determination throughout our therapeutic relationship.
