Hi there, I'm Kate!

Hello! I'm Dr. Kate Jones. Thank you for viewing my profile. I am a trauma and wellness expert who specializes in police and first responder psychology and treatment, in addition to extensive experience working with civilians. I work with individuals 11 and up. I approach your treatment from a collaborative, patient-centered perspective in which you and I work together to accomplish your treatment and wellness goals. In addition to my trauma expertise, I have a long history of treating individuals with depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and problematic substance use.

My approach

I am considered an eclectic treatment provider. Most often, I utilize Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, and Humanistic and Interpersonal treatment modalities.

My focus

I work with law enforcement and first responders and have a comprehensive understanding of the specific difficulties these populations deal with. I'm also a wellness specialist who assists in working toward the development of wellness goals related to interpersonal relationships, parental issues, weight management and fitness, body image and self-care, vocational concerns, life transitions, and adjustment. I work with adolescents (11 -18), adults (18-64), and geriatric (65+) populations. I am comfortable treating PTSD, suicidal ideation, depression, substance use, anxiety, panic attacks, OCD, OCPD, women's issues, men's issues, LGBTQIA+, individuals with chronic illness, grief and loss, stress and anger management, and spirituality.

My communication style

I take a positive approach to patient care by treating every individual with dignity and respect while offering a collaborative, patient-centered, non-judgmental concentration that underscores the nature of the therapeutic relationship. I work to foster a sense of safety, open communication, and validation of your subjective experience while simultaneously promoting your growth and well-being through gentle challenges and enhancement of introspection, reflection, and intrinsic motivation.

My journey to mental healthcare

As a child, I was profoundly sad and experienced an intense aloneness that took me to a very dark place. Prior to acting on those thoughts, I came to the realization that no one should ever have to feel that alone when in that much pain. As a result, I decided I wanted to assist others in their own healing journeys. What drives me to do this work is that I thoroughly understand feeling that sense of disconnection with the world around you while feeling compelled to make it seem like everything is fine. I have experienced that deep sadness that physically hurts, feeling endless and desolate. I have witnessed the intense fear and powerlessness inherent in anxiety and panic attacks. I have confronted my anger regarding injustice and prolonged invalidation. I believe healing requires a personal investment in oneself which is fostered through the safety of a therapeutic relationship. I facilitate a sense of connection by offering my support and clinical expertise in a non-judgmental and genuine manner in order to assist you in self-exploration and behavioral change.

My goals for you

Goal setting is a collaborative approach based on the current difficulties you are reporting, specific wellness-related goals you may have in mind before meeting me, as well as working to enhance your functioning within the various pillars of wellness (i.e., physical, social, emotional, occupational, spiritual, environment, etc.).

My first session with you

You will be presented at the onset with the opportunity to ask any questions you may have of me prior to getting started. I will review informed consent and limits to confidentiality, as well as my late cancellation policy. Following this discussion, you and I will get to know one another by assessing what your current difficulties are, your specific wellness-related goals, and how you are currently functioning within the various pillars of wellness. We will work to identify your current challenges and collaboratively develop a treatment plan based on your needs and strengths.
